Product design
Our expert product design and management services are provided by SWECO Mecaplan Oy, a joint-venture of Mecanova and SWECO Industry Oy. SWECO Mecaplan provides product development and projecting services for industrial clients in the form of a comprehensive Product Lifecycle Management service, spanning the entire cycle from R&D to product data management (PDM).
The company’s experienced professionals apply their profound know-how in product design and manufacturing methods to assist our clients in accelerating their product development, transferring products to serial production, ensuring the productability of their products, and lowering product costs.
Typical SWECO Mecaplan projects include turnkey deliveries for the electronics and electric power industries and products for machine and equipment manufacturers. Product development of electrical cabinets, moulding and sealing design and development of production methods comprise a significant proportion of the design work. Product development is supported throughout its various stages by our versatile expertise in manufacturing techniques and our international network of suppliers.
The design process includes Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) based detailed preliminary design and productability analysis, in which the potential risks and costs of manufacturing are assessed at the planning stage. The CAD design software used includes, e.g., I-DEAS, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineering, UGS NX and CATIA. In product life cycle management we use the Windchill PDM system which, via secure network, enables sharing of real-time product and design data between different client offices and units during the product design phase.
Research and development co-operation is carried out with, for example, Helsinki University of Technology, the University of Oulu, the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), Centria, and a range of machinery and equipment suppliers.
